I have found our kids love simple kids things the most. For example, bringing lunch to Heritage Park near Irvine Fine Arts Center is so nice! In fact every public park in Irvine is so big and clean but Heritage Park is one of our favorites because it has a little of everything, (playground, sports area, water splashing area, lake, library, etc).
Regarding beaches my favorite is Aliso Beach. The water is clear and the sand is clean, it's usually not too crowded, there is a little beach cafe called,The Sands at Aliso Beach.Parking is always easy as there is a pay by hour parking lot. The only drawback is the waves can get strong, it's beautiful to watch, but we always make sure to keep a close eye on the kids. Keila is naturally cautious of the ocean but Austin is a little more daring.
Our kids love Ginas pizza, it's right down the street from our home. If you ask they give the kids pizza dough to play with. A few doors down is Stricklands ice cream, the best ice cream I have ever had. The dole pinapple whip is sooo delicious!!!
Other fun things are of course the Irvine Spectrum, they now have a playground near Target, and of course the ferris wheel, merry go round and train.
Upscale but still kid friendly Coliseum restaurant at Pelican Hill. The tables are spacious, they have a little toy chest near the hostess stand to borrow toys. if you can sit outside the view is amazing, Pelican hill is one of my favorite places.
