Bye Fremont, Hello Irvine

Well what a busy month it has been. Since my last post, we moved from Fremont to Irvine, but before that shared some great memories with our friends. In addition, I started working again and Keila has started daycare, PHEW.

Starting off with the move. It was certainly a strange time of my life. I always knew I wanted to go back to work and follow Yohei's dream to move to Irvine but when the time came, it was definitely a mixture of bitter and sweet. In the weeks before our move, we met up with friends to spend as much quality time as possible, Keila went with Kai to the Habitot's museum in Berkeley, the next week she went with Jacob to Happy Hollow petting zoo in San Jose, shortly after she went to Braden's first birthday, and later on that same day Yohei & I went on our date night for his NY Life banquet. Here are some pictures from the weeks prior to our move!

We moved 3 days after my birthday so Somer threw us a great going away/birthday party. I will never forget how wonderful it was to be surrounded by such great people and friends. It was an unusually warm evening, around 80 degrees. All of the babies from Keila's "circle of friends" came. Everyone was eating great food, chasing babies, babies playing, parents laughing, talk about a positive vibe! Yet in the back of my mind, I felt so uncertain about our new life to come, the move, how Keila would react to daycare, but most of all moving far away from the friends we had become so close to.

Two days later the movers came, packed up all of our stuff and the next day, February 11 we were on our way by Southwest to LA Airport where we met my dad (who was already in LA for work). The next week was hectic. We had to unpack and find all of our things. We were able to get a lot done while Keila napped and my parents helped watch Keila and my Dad was a huge help setting up our furniture. I was so tired as I felt a lot of pressure to get settled in before my start date on Feb 22. All of the taped up boxes seemed overwhelming because the way the movers packed all of our items, they wrapped everything with mounds and mounds of packing paper! Not that I am complaining but c'mon guys save a tree.

Fortunately we were able to unpack and settle in (for the most part) well before my start date. And now here I am, 3 weeks after, with a glass of wine in my hand, finally able to cross "write in blog" off of my "TO DO LIST."

By the way. Work is going well. Daycare is going even better. Never in my wildest dreams had I ever thought such an AMAZING place existed. This daycare has exceeded my highest expectations. It is like the Michelin 5 stars of daycare, (even better than 3). Here are a few pictures to show how wonderful Keila is doing. Yesterday, when Yohei picked her up, I heard she cried because she didn't want to leave! Now that is when you can tell that a daycare is good. The workers take extra care to make sure Keila is loved and taken care of. She takes wonderful naps there, eats wholesome well balanced lunches, and learns so much! I know this because she gets a report card everyday detailing the activities. Usually there is a greeting time, song time, job time, story time, flashcard time, nap time, lunch, and then play time, what a wonderful day! Keila is the youngest child there by about 3 months. All of the older kids help watch over her and take care of her if she is sad or lonely. She really enjoys it there and has made some great friends.

  2. awh. I just read this post. I miss you guys! It was a very strange time for me, as well. And also-- man, Keila's daycare looks so amazing.. I think 2 really great things that I can't fully give Kai at the moment-- constant peer and social interaction plus JAPANESE! You are doing such a wonderful job with Keila and I'm glad that the move down to socal has been good.. :)
